Eye Surgery in Thailand

Eye care and treatment, in Thailand, can cater for any procedure available at home.

From general problems to treatments that require the expertise of specialists.

There are ophthalmologists from every field related to the eyes as well as modern tools and equipment which is often better than available in the West. Typically we assist with Lasik Procedures however we can assist with any other procedure.

LASIK IS AN ACRONYM FOR Laser Insitu Keratomileusis

Specialized excimer lasers can reshape your cornea and can correct any refractive errors and can correct the shape of your cornea and can correct myopia (near sightedness) and can correct hyperopia (farsightedness) and can also correct astigmatism.

Excimer lasers have revolutionized the field of laser eye surgery and over the decades have greatly increased the safety, efficacy and predictability of corneal refractive surgery. The lasers can removemicroscopic amounts of tissue with a very, very high degree of accuracy and without damaging the corneal tissue.

THE NEW LASER SURGERY FOR OVER 40’S

When we age the lenses inside our eyes begin to lose the ability to change shape that is required to focus on near and far objects, a condition call Presbyopia. Thanks to Lasers like the Zeiss MEL-80 there can be compensations for the symptoms of presbyopia with Laser Blended Vision, which enables doctors to restore ‘multiple – focus’ ability, correcting long and short-sightendss and enhancing reading vision The Laser Blended Vision Treatment adjusts each eye in different ways, offering patients freedom from bifocal reading glasses and contact lenses

What To Consider When Comparing Different LASIK Lasers

Several types of Eye Lasers are available in Thailand and it not a case that one particular laser is “better” than another. Your surgeon will review your particular case and advise the best and most suitable excimer for you. eg: degree of refractive error, the size of your pupils and the thickness of your cornea.

Whilst the surgeon’s choice of particular laser is critical the expeinse and your surgeon’s skill will cause excellent outcome.

FemtoLASIK (All-Laser LASIK)

The advanced bladeless FemtoLASIK (All-Laser LASIK) used by the surgeons utilizes the latest generation of specialized ultrafast, femtosecond lasers, which were designed for the creation of corneal flaps during the LASIK procedure. The FemtoLASIK uses the Carl Zeiss (Germany) machine to create a corneal flap with a precisely predetermined pattern and depth that were once considered unattainable for people with corneas too thin, flat, steep or irregular in shape. Once the corneal flap is made, the Carl Zeiss MEL 80 excimer laser is used to provide wavefront correction which will give patients the clear vision without glasses. The advanced technology of the Carl Zeiss VisuMax femtosecond laser allows for a smoother flap interface, and its patented curved contact surface increases patient comfort by inducing minimal pressure on the cornea.

The advanced laser design makes the correction of vision defects even safer and more patient-friendly, FemtoLASIK technology delivers a fast, safe and comfortable LASIK procedure while reducing the amount of thermal energy delivered to the cornea with excellent treatment results.

It is a same-day procedure and patients return home immediately afterwards.

M-Max LASIK is microkeratome blade-LASIK

is an opertion that corrects farsightedness and nearsightedness and astigmatism by makig a corneal flap. The laser corrects the exposed middle layer of the cornea before the flpa is replaced.

P-Max PRK

PRK (photorefractive keratectomy), also known as ‘surface ablation’, was the first type of laser eye surgery for vision correction. This surgery commenced in the eighties and still today provides excellent outcomes however with the introduction of Lasik surgery it became less common. Whilst there are some recovery benefits with Lasik there are also some benefits in using PRK

The main difference from LASIK is that the top layer of cells that cover the surface of the cornea is removed and a bandage contact lens applied so no flap is created.

The primary advantages of LASIK over PRK is that there is little or no discomfort or pain immediately following the procedure, and vision returns more rapidly, usually within hours rather than days.
